Sol Orozco

Culinary Instructor

Chef Sol is an accomplished and dynamic chef and former business owner and managing partner, with substantial success in leading food wholesale and manufacturing operations. As Culinary Chef Instructor, Chef Sol leads the Culinary Training and ServSafe courses provided to our Spanish and English-speaking students. Sol also manages LCVA’s Catering Services and help to manage the food Assistance Meal Donation Program.

Sol holds a degree in Culinary Arts, Gastronomy, and Food and Restaurant Management from the Instituto Culinario de Mexico in Puebla (Culinary Institute of Mexico), and is certified as a ServSafe Food Protection Manager, Instructor, and Proctor. Sol completed coursework and training in various resorts, hotels, and restaurants in Puebla, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, San Carlos, and Cancun, in Mexico; Upstate New York; and Bruges, Belgium.

Sol began her career as a pastry cook at Centro Citibanamex, a world-class convention center and horserace track in Mexico City, where she was promoted to Chef Assistant and participated in the creation of menus and events for up to 20,000 guests.

Sol then worked as a Sales & Promotion Chef for General Mills/Pillsbury where she promoted various food-service and high-end products to resort and restaurant chefs in Mexico’s Southeastern region, covering Merida, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Cancun.

After moving to California, Sol co-founded a tea retail, wholesale, and manufacturing company, where she oversaw product development, ingredient sourcing, and production management of 30 proprietary tea blends. Sol lead sales on Amazon.com, Northern California Whole Foods Markets, wholesale costumers in Japan, Puerto Rico and Mexico, and various independent regional cafes and restaurants. In 2015, her company, Raizana Tea Co., was recognized as one of the “Best Entrepreneurial Companies in America” by Entrepreneur Magazine’s Entrepreneur360™ Performance Index.

Sol sold her company and moved to Washington, DC in 2016 to pursue further opportunities. Sol enjoys traveling the world with her husband and daughter, discovering new food, cultures, and flavors, or enjoying a quiet evening with her two pugs.
