Workforce Development Coordinator
Nicole Sonderegger is the Workforce Development Coordinator for La Cocina VA. She grew up in San Jose, Costa Rica and moved to the United States to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a second degree in Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Nicole also holds a graduate certificate in Project Monitoring and Evaluation from American University.
Nicole is passionate about economic development and sustainable social impact. She brings experience building partnerships with businesses and community organizations to La Cocina VA. She began her professional career in corporate account management at Oracle where she assisted federal civilian agencies with technology modernization initiatives.
Nicole simultaneously served as the Director of Operations and Strategy for a start-up nonprofit that provided a mentorship program for Muslim women. Prior to that, she helped lead a community organization that served immigrant populations in North Carolina. She developed and taught an English as a Second Language course, provided coaching, and restructured the organization to more effectively reach and serve immigrants in the community.
As the Workforce Development Coordinator, Nicole brings a hands-on, practical approach to her Job Readiness course. She also manages partnerships with multiple employers across the hospitality industry to fill the need for hardworking, job-ready employees. Nicole also leads the Small Food Business Development program and the organization’s monitoring and evaluation initiatives.
